Hypnosis for Addiction & Addictive Behaviours

If you’re reading this for yourself, or for someone you know that needs help with substance abuse or addictive behaviour then read on.

Addiction and addictive behaviour can come in many forms, and isn’t just limited to substance abuse such as Cannabis, Cocaine, Heroine and other drugs. By now we’ve all heard about the rise of other addictions such as Pornography, Shopping, Video Games and the Internet.

There is nearly always both a psychological element as well as a physical element involved in the addiction and Hypnosis and NLP can be extremely effective in creating more useful behaviours, coping strategies, boosting self control and motivation but more importantly helping to address the root cause of the addiction as well.

There isn’t always a ‘root cause’ in my experience, sometimes you might have just slipped into a bad habits from your friends work colleagues or peers. I once worked with a trader in the City who worked in a culture of an expectancy to take cocaine and drink heavily on slow days and after busy days. He doesn’t touch the stuff now, and instead trots off to the gym when the others “get on it”.

When I work with a client with addiction or substance abuse, the methods I use will vary depending on what will give the best results. I often use hypnosis to help change how you respond to negative experiences that happened to you (and possibly helped drive you towards negative behaviours).

I’m also likely to use hypnosis and techniques from NLP with the client to help build new and gather existing resources, directing the client towards new behaviours and choices. Most of all helping to set themselves them in a new direction, one while might not mean being transformed into a High-5 power house of positivity but instead someone who is resilient enough to deal with what life throws at them in the future and to work towards a better way of life.
